Review of Window 8 Devices

Below is a letter that the Digital Leaders wrote to Governors with their opinions on two Window 8 devices after researching their different features.

Dear Governors,

We are writing to you to inform you of the Windows 8 device we would recommend purchasing for the school. After researching several options we have decided the AcerW510 would be the most suitable. One of the reasons we have chosen this product, over the Dell Latitude, is because of its portability. This is important as we may wish to take the device outside and take photos so it needs to be light enough and easy to transport around school. With the Acer model you can have it as a laptop and a tablet which offers more choice for pupils. Earlier in the year some of the Digital Leaders went around the school to do a survey but they found it difficult because they had to carry around a laptop to take all of our surveys on.

As a result of our research, we have discovered that the AcerW510 has 18 hours battery life on its own (9 hours on tablet) which is a necessary as it would have to last a whole school day which is 6 hours long. It also has a detachable and reachable keyboard. This is an excellent feature as with past experience we have found it hard to type on touch screen devices where as the Acer tablet has a key board which is even better for us. Its durability would suit younger children because they might drop it where as with an iPad it would break the screen. The AcerW510 also has a touch screen which is a unique feature.

It also comes with built in Windows 8 technology which includes a variety of APPs designed to help learning in the classroom. Microsoft Office is installed so we can use familiar programmes to do work on which is something the iPads do not have.

Yours Sincerely

The Digital Leaders
